Dry January: A Step Toward Health and Wellness?

Did you know Dry January has roots dating back to 1942?  The concept started in Finland when the government encouraged adults to reduce alcohol consumption in January as a wartime resource-saving measure. The modern movement, however, began in 2013, thanks to the UK charity Alcohol Change UK. Their “Dry January” initiative aimed to raise awareness about the harm caused by alcohol consumption.  The campaign quickly gained traction. In 2024, 175,000 people registered for Dry January through Alcohol Change UK’s website. Around 260 million Americans also pledged to participate that year.

Dry January is a great opportunity to reset drinking habits.  If you’re planning to take part in Dry January this coming year, let me know and share your goal with others for support and encouragement. Even better, team up with a buddy to make the challenge more enjoyable and motivating.  Remember, small changes can lead to big improvements in your overall well-being.

So, whether you’re embracing Dry January or pursuing another resolution, here’s to your health and happiness in 2025.
